FOUR officials from the Himeville Licensing and Testing Station and one from uMngeni Licensing Office in Howick, made a brief appearance in the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court yesterday.

Rogers Duma (41), Primrose Mtolo (40), Gideon Nkwe (26), Thina Kheswa (30) and Roger Everton (51) are facing charges of corruption and fraud for allegedly issuing fraudulent learner’s licences.

They were arrested on Friday, following a joint operation by the Road Traffic Management Corporation’s (RTMC) Anti-Corruption Unit, the Hawks and KwaZulu-Natal traffic and transport unit.

Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) spokesperson Simon Zwane said Everton, a former manager at the uMngeni Licensing Office, was arrested after he was linked to the fraud there by evidence collected in March, when they arrested 15 people in Howick.

The five were each released on bail of R1 500 each. They are expected back in court on February 27, next year.

Zwane said investigations are continuing and more arrests are expected.
