Five wanted for business robbery

2017-11-22 06:02

POLICE are searching for five men who robbed King Store on the corner of Retief and Berg streets last Friday.

The five armed men allegedly entered the shop at 7am and held the owner at gun point.

A source, who works next to the store, told Maritzburg Fever that King Store was the last store to open on Friday.

“I saw five men entering the shop, but did not think they were going to rob it. They did not stay inside long.

“After a few minutes I saw them come out and run towards Boom Street, which is when I learnt the shop has been robbed.”

The shop owner refused to comment and told Maritzburg Fever journalist to ask the police for more information.

Pietermaritzburg SAPS Spokesperson Sergeant Mthokosizi Ngobese confirmed the incident, but said no one has been arrested.

Police are investigating a business robbery case.

In a separate incident the SAPS Pietermaritzburg Dog Unit and the SAPS Mountain Rise Crime Prevention Unit arrested four
foreign nationals who robbed a general dealer at gunpoint on Monday afternoon in Raisethorpe.

It is alleged they stole items and then fled in a Subaru.

A SAPS Mountain Rise Crime Prevention Police vehicle in Raisethorpe chased the alleged robbers after receiving a complaint, assisted by the SAPS Pietermaritzburg Dog Unit.

They were arrested in Cinderella Park.

The items, valued at R20 000, were recovered in the Sabaru.

Mountain Rise Station Commander Brigadier Boxer Pillay commended the men and women in blue for their action, which contributed positively to the reduction of crime.

The four are to appear in court soon.
