Former coach motivates players

2016-02-03 06:00

MARITZBURG United players will have to be strong, stay focused and pull together to accomplish their mission.

The Team of Choice former head coach, currently with Kaizer Chiefs, Steve Komphela, says he believes players will be able to stay strong and carry on where they left off after the death of midfielder Mondli Cele.

The Free State-born mentor this week said it must be remembered he was the head coach for United for a long time and knows their strengths.

Komphela also asks that the team face reality and they must understand that the show will have to go on without Cele.

“Remember those players are still my children. We worked as one big happy family and I fully understand their strength. I know they will make everybody in Maritzburg and KwaZulu-Natal proud by moving up the log table.

“I know Cele’s death was a big blow to everybody, it won’t be easy for the team, but I say, go out there and perform with braveness in honour of your fallen hero.

“I know that Mondli’s spirit will be always with them during their games and he will be also their 12th player on the field,” said Komphela. Cele was buried last weekend at Folweni and United’s fixture against Lamontville Golden Arrows was postponed.

On Saturday the Team of Choice go against Mamelodi Sundowns at Harry Gwala.
