FORMER police officer Thobelani Khuzwayo, who was found guilty of murder, is to be sentenced today in the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court.

Khuzwayo was to be sentenced last Wednesday, but the case was postponed as Magistrate Bhekokwakhe Khumalo was ill.

Khuzwayo was arrested in 2014 and released on bail, however last month, Khuzwayo was kept in custody after being found guilty. He shot and murdered Kalvin Naidoo from Northdale in a road rage accident on the corner of Retief Street and Jabu Ndlovu streets in November 2014.

Throughout the trial, which lasted three years, Khuzwayo maintained his innocence.

Naidoo’s family said they are disappointed that the sentencing was adjourned after “three, long years”.

“At least we do not have to wait long this time. The worst is about to be over, we will continue to be patient,” said Naidoo’s mother, Pasty.
