Frail care centre needs more residents

2017-07-05 06:01

ALTHOUGH they are struggling with the budget they not planning to close the Azalea Gardens Frail Care Centre situated in Alexander Road. Lesa Jones, the centre’s general manager, told Maritzburg Fever they are struggling because of the lack of funding as they are not an NPO.

“We have the capacity to cater for 16 people, but at the moment we only have 10.

“Having more people will help us because we are struggling, but we are not planning on closing the centre.

“These people rely on us. We are their family when their family members are not here, which is most of the time. All the finances required to run this centre every month comes from the occupants and Azalea Garden body corporate. We want to make people aware that we are here to take care of their old family members. We need them to keep this centre open,” she said.

Jones said many people don’t know they exist and they want to raise that awareness.

“We want people to know we here to help them. We cater for everyone even those who come from outside are welcome. Most of the people we take care of are those who are fragile, who need 24-hour care.”

“These are old people and we want to make them feel comfortable. We don’t want to close this centre. If we have four more people it will make a huge difference in the low-budget situation we are in,” she said.
