AWARD-WINNING filmmaker Portia Mncadi will host the first ever uMgungundlovu Film Festival which takes place at City Hall on November 21, from 11 am to 2 pm. The festival will include two workshops, one on script writing and one on making a film. Mncadi told Echo that when she started making films she made a lot of blunders, and would like to be there to support other young, upcoming filmmakers. “This is a platform to pass on information to young filmmakers in order to minimise and maybe even eliminate certain problems when they need to submit proposals.“This is their opportunity to learn more about filmmaking. We know that they have love for it and they have talent but they also need to have all the information about the industry as a whole. I do not want them to battle like I did in the beginning because I had no information, but it was my passion,” she said. She said the workshop is open to everyone, however their main target is women. She said women of all ages are welcome and males between the ages of eight and 35 are welcome too. “Filmmaking is a male-dominated industry. We want to change that. We want to empower women who want to get into film making. We know that they have talent and they have a lot of stories to tell.“We need to tell stories that we relate to everyday so that people can learn through film,” she said.
