Fund-raising run for abuse victims

IN closing the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children, Pietermaritzburg Police Station, Pietermaritzburg Central Community Policing Forum (CPF) and KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council (KZNCC) will host a five-kilometre fun run to raise funds for abused women and children in and around Pietermaritzburg.

The run will start at 8am at Dales Park Sports Grounds on Friday and is open to all. Entry is R20.

Pietermaritzburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Khosi Khonjelwayo said through this event they want to raise awareness and teach people about abuse.

“We want to teach people about abuse and what they need to do when they face abuse. As police officers we take women and children abuse very seriously,” she said.

She said money raised from the event will assist help them when they host programmes at homes where abused women and children are housed.

Tickets available from the
Pietermaritzburg Police Station in the social crime prevention section or at Dales Park on Friday morning before the race.
