A PROVEN track record for making sure criminals receive the full might of the law has seen Sergeant Sandile Magubane of the Alexandra Police Station receive the highest of praise from both his colleagues and the public.

Among some of the cases Magubane has been praised for in recent months is that of a case the Maritzburg Fever reported on recently where Mthobisi Thezela received 30 years in prison for armed robbery, attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm when he stole a phone and cash from a couple and threatened them if they did not comply.

Having served as a police officer for up to 16 years, Magubane remembers the first day he started out as a police officer when he joined the Richmond SAPS Task Team fighting against political violence.

Magubane then joined the Alexandra Police SAPS in 2014 where he has excelled in apprehending dangerous and violent criminals while working on serious and violent crimes.

Not one to hog the spotlight, Magubane said that had it not been for his colleagues’ assistance he would not be the cop he is today.

“The colleagues I have ensure that they work thoroughly and faithfully towards seeing these cases through right until the end.

“Every day I learn from and I am supported by them through these investigations,” said Magubane proudly of his colleagues. Magubane said that through the use of different expertise in the various units throughout the police station he was able to fulfil his job successfully.

He added that it is not all glitz and glamour as portrayed in the media and that there are a lot of times where he has had to overcome life-threatening obstacles and challenges.

“I have racked up quite an array of enemies which comes with the territory as you arrest gang members and vicious criminals which does pose a threat to my life and that of my family and friends,” said Magubane.

This has not deterred the top cop’s spirit who continues to strive towards keeping criminals off the streets and making Pietermaritzburg safer.
