THE ANNUAL Pietermaritzburg Jazz Festival is one of the most popular and most attended festivals in the City, attracting music lovers from all over South Africa.

According to the organisers, the 2018 instalment was their most successful so far, with more than 7 000 people in attendance, and this year they are expecting even more and they are doing everything they can to ensure that the number grows.

The organisers are describing the 2019 PMB Jazz Festival as “a bit urban” with a line-up featuring the cream of the crop of SA artists such as Berita, Simmy, Lady Zamar, Prince Kaybee, Vusi Nova, Sphectacula and DJ Naves as well as Kwesta, who returns for the second time.

The emcees for the evening are Gagasi FM trio Felix Hlophe, Zola Zeelovin and Heazy.

Starlight Promotions management set themselves the mandate to promote Pietermaritzburg local artists by affording them a business opportunity to perform on stage alongside the best in the industry and this year will be no different as Pietermaritzburg’s own Chofy, DJ Free, Sne Zulu, Mafrika Band, Londy Mkhize, and Sine Zondi will also be dazzling the crowd.

The development of local and emerging artists remains a priority of the Pietermaritzburg Jazz Festival Project and, on Friday, August 2, an artists’ workshop will be hosted at The Winston Churchill Theatre from 9 am which will be facilitated by experienced musicians and music graduates.

This programme aims to leave a lasting legacy in the ever-growing music industry in the City of Choice.
