PIETERMARITZBURG Girls’ High School paddlers Melonie Croeser and Olivia Woodburn impressed in two events at the weekend.

At the K1 Schools League event, where 52 paddlers from nine schools competed in the eight-kilometre flat water marathon, Melonie took first place overall (U16 and U18), and Olivia placed third in U16 and fifth overall.

The GHS pair also competed in the K2 women’s race in the Umkomaas River Canoe Marathon on Sunday.

Melonie and Olivia, who is only 16 years old, took first place in spite of big waters on the Umkomaas River after the recent rain. The duo will pair up for the Dusi Canoe Marathon on February 27 to 29.
