THE Cancer Association of SA (CANSA) Pietermaritzburg, will be hosting a Gijima For CANSA five-kilometre family fun walk/run on Sunday, February 2.The run will be held at Voortrekker High School sports grounds.According to Heidi Jansen, CANSA community mobiliser, they are hosting the family fun walk on February 2 to commemorate World Cancer Day, which will be on Tuesday, February 4.World Cancer Day is observed internationally to raise awareness on cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.“We are pledging all Pietermaritzburgers to get active, healthy and have some fun with the whole family. At the same time the communities will be contributing to a local organisation that has been educating the public and offering support services to cancer patients and their families,” said Jansen, adding that this fun run is aimed at creating awareness about living a healthy lifestyle and the realisation that everyone can make a difference in the fight against cancer.Registration will start from 6.30 am until 8.45 am. There will also be a warm-up Zumba session from 7.45 am to 8 am. To participate it costs R50 per adult and R30 for children under 12 years old.There are also goodie bags available for the first 50 entries and free clinical breast examination for registered entrants.
