GLENWOOD proved far superior to College in the water-polo fixture played at the weekend and Hilton scored a couple of late goals to fend off Kearsney.
Glenwood 24 College 2

While some of Glenwood’s junior teams battled on the day with many players experiencing their first taste of competitive schools’ waterpolo, the 1st team had no such problems in dominating the match. From the start the Durban boys clicked and according to coach Steve La Marque, they were “simply outstanding”.

Dylan Cronje, who has played many matches for the team, skippered well, leading by example with four goals to his name and instrumental in many others.

Other players who stood out were Wanye Phillips, whose work on the right was outstanding, while Slade du Randt topped the scoring with eight goals, closely followed by Gabriel Stopford with six.
Hilton 8 Kearsney 6

This was a tight, competitive match with either side in with a chance of winning. No side could dominate or break away and going into the final minute, it was 6-6 and there for the taking.

With 43 seconds remaining, Hilton scored a crucial break-away goal and then rubbed salt in the wound with another strike straight after.

With no time left, Kearsney could not reply and Hilton had sneaked across the line for a confidence-boosting win, leaving Kearsney to ponder the many opportunities that had gone abegging.
