FOLLOWING his success with renowned Pietermaritzburg gospel choir, Sounds of Salvation, the group founder, Thula Mhlophe, has formed another gospel choir - the Umgungundlovu Gospel Choir.

The choir is to record a debut CD and DVD on stage at the Winston Churchill Theatre on 2 September.

The choir, which consists of singers from various parts of Umgungundlovu District Municipality, was formed last year after auditions were held.

Mhlophe said the recording will be a thriller as the choir will be joined by Malusi Ndimande, Nelly kaDlamini, Nkanyiso Miya and Mthokozisi Zakwe.

“We went around the district scouting for new talent last year and with this recording, we want to give the choir a platform to shine.

“We also intend to raise and develop talented musicians who will help spread the word of God through music.”

Mhlophe said preparations for the DVD recording are at an advanced stage and they are expecting a huge turnout.

“This live recording will be a memorable one for gospel music fans.

“It is going to be a powerful night of praise. The team is ready and we feel it is now time to share the work we have put in.”

Other artists expected to perform on the night include Ga Ndlela, Thabani Hadebe and Sgwili Zuma.

Scelo Mncube will deliver a motivational speech and the event will also feature comedian Justice Kubheka.

Tickets are R150 per person or R200 for VIP at Computicket.
