THE Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is calling on runners to join in the 10th running of the annual Greater Edendale Race, which will be held on Sunday, 13 November.

The race will be held at FNB Wadley Stadium in Georgetown, Edendale as part of the CMA social responsibility programme.

Comrades Marathon Association media officer, Delaine Cools said over the years the race has gained popularity.

“The race attracts nearly 2 000 participants every year. This year prize money totalling to more than R21 000 is up for grabs with a first prize of R3 000 for the first man and first woman over the finish line, respectively.”

The first three walkers over the finish line for both the men’s and women’s race will also be rewarded.

“Additionally, every finisher will take home a medal in addition to all 10km runners receiving an Edendale 10km Race T-shirt.”

The race is a major attraction for schools, with grand prizes for those with the most number of finishers. Safety and security is overseen by SAPS and traffic police, as well as 60 marshals who will be on duty on the day.

Entry for the 10km race is R40 and participants must be at 14 and older. Temporary licences will be available at the registration desk at a cost of R10 for runners who are not licensed members of a running club.

Anyone over nine may enter the five-kilometre fun run, which forms part of the Aims Children’s Series Race. Entry is R20, but free for pupils.

The event is run under the auspices of the International Amateur Athletics Federation, Athletics South Africa and KwaZulu-Natal Athletics.

Pre-entries will be taken at Comrades Marathon House (weekdays between 8am and 4pm). The race organising committee will be at the FNB Wadley Stadium taking entries on Saturday, 12 November from 11am to 2pm. Registration will also be open from 5am to 7am on race day. - Supplied.
