HAVING beautiful and healthy hair is every girl’s dream.

ECHO spoke to hairstylist Khanyi Sithole from Imbali Unit BB and asked her to share her tips on how to take care of your hair and keep it healthy at all times.

Sithole has been the hairstylist since 2015. She told Echo that she was always passionate about hairstyling, so she decided to make a career of it.

“I love working with hair. I love making people look beautiful and feel confident. Every girl wants to have a healthy hair and look beautiful,” she said.

Sithole said the most important thing when growing your hair is to make sure that you do not keep the same hairstyle for a long time. Most people make this mistake as they believe that their hair will grow faster, but that is not the case, she said.

“This often leads to hair breakage. Hair should be washed twice or thrice a month if it is braided. Treatment is also very important if you are growing your hair.

When washing your hair make sure that you moisturise your scalp to prevent dandruff.”

Sithole said people with relaxed hair should not repeat the process with different relaxers often, but rather give their hair a chance to adapt to the relaxer they’ve used.

“Most of the people have broken hair because they are always changing the type of relaxers they use because they feel it is not working or their hair is not growing fast enough.

“You need to give your hair at least three months to adapt and understand the hair product that you are using.

You can not change hair products every time you think that they are not working. By doing that you are confusing your hair.”

She also revealed that natural hair grows faster than relaxed hair because there are no chemicals used.

When you have natural hair you need to wash it accordingly, plait it and make sure you moisturising it, she said.

• Wash your hair every month.

• Make sure your hair gets a treatment.

• Do not stay with braids or any plaiting for too long.

• Do not wear a wig all the time — allow your hair to breathe.

• Avoid plaiting your hair using wool.

• Change your hair style
