ON Saturday January 6 a tasty takeaway turned out to be repulsive for Thembi Zondi as she bit into a shawarma she had bought from an outlet in Church Street.

“I had only taken two bites when on the third bite I felt something hard. When I looked I saw it was a hair net,” Zondi said.

She said she was disgusted and worried she would pick up an illness from it.

Zondi said she couldn’t take the shawarma back because she was working night shift and the store had closed, so she wrapped it up and kept it until the next day.

“The only time I could go back was the next day before my shift started in the afternoon,” she said.

Zondi said that Sunday afternoon she went back to the outlet to report about her find.

“But they told me I had put the net in the shawarma, but I told them that when I made the discovery I showed my co-workers so I had witnesses,” Zondi said.

She said, however, she was offered a refund, but is still not satisfied with the way the matter was handled.

“I just want them to apologise and I want to be compensated should there be any medical complications that arise from this encounter,” Zondi said.

A woman working at the outlet who opted to remain anonymous denied the takeaway had been bought there, saying their food is prepared in front of customers, which reduces the chances of such a mishap occurring.

“Obviously they will deny any wrongdoing,” Zondi said.
