Heading to bankruptcy?

2020-01-29 06:01

PITY-MARITZBURG, where some ratepayers owe the city R4 billion and where some employees of the municipality take home, over and above their handsome salaries, overtime pay to the tune of R7,3 million just in one month, as highlighted by Witness reporters. If the City’s coffers are raided by its employees and its rate-payers engage in the culture of non-payment, surely this can only mean eventual total bankruptcy? Will it then cry, like some municipalities, that it cannot provide basic services because it has no funds?

Delinquent residents need to pay for services and employees need to stop fleecing honest ratepayers.

The city administrator and his coterie have a legal obligation to make sure this happens sooner rather than later.
