THE SEVENTH Day Adventist (SDA) church in Woodlands will host a “Bringing Hope to Your Home” Health Expo on Sunday, October 20 from 9 am.

The expo will offer free health screenings to residents which will include blood pressure and diabetes screenings, health age tests, cardiovascular fitness assessments, health counselling, massages, and more.

In speaking about the reason for hosting the event, SDA youth leader Vasie Hammond said the church will be irrelevant in the community if it does not care about the wellbeing of its citizens in the immediate community.

“This is a unique programme of the SDA church and we are humbled to be called to serve people,” said Hammond.

Explaining the aim of the event, Hammond said that, as the church, they are not only concerned with just the spiritual wellbeing of the community, but also their physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.

“The aim is to bring health professionals and trained volunteers who will raise health awareness, educate and give free screenings [to the community],” said Hammond, who emphasised that when the church was founded in 2000 it was for the purpose of assisting communities with health awareness, education and prevention.

“South Africa is one of the unhealthiest countries in the world, especially with non-communicable diseases [lifestyle diseases] escalating out of control in our communities. This awareness and prevention programme will therefore greatly help the communities to become aware and be informed so they can make informed decisions about their health,” said Hammond.

Hammond highlighted that a healthy life is everything and encouraged everyone to take advantage of the free health screenings.

“A free health screening can make a huge difference. Our team is very knowledgeable, friendly and very helpful,” ended Hammond.
