THE family of Yashveer Kesari is on the lookout for anyone who could possibly help identify four individuals, one female and three males, who viciously assaulted Kesari over the weekend at a spaza shop in Allandale.

In a video released to the Maritzburg Fever, four individuals are seen entering a store where they proceed to attack Kesari with various weapons, including what appears to be a machete.

In speaking to Maritzburg Fever on behalf of his family, brother of the victim Sherwin Kesari said that the incident was sparked by an altercation that his brother had outside the store with one of the men.

“My brother, Yashy, was walking to the shop when a white van approached the driveway and almost knocked him. The man then got out of the car with a weapon [knobkerrie] after Yashy confronted him for almost knocking him. The man approached Yashy with the weapon and my brother managed to pull the weapon off him,” said Sherwin, who added that his brother then went into the store to buy a cigarette.

Sherwin said that in footage taken from outside, you can see a man making a phone call, likely to the individuals who entered the shop with him a few minutes later.

“Thereafter they beat my brother senseless with weapons and stomped on him until he couldn’t react anymore.

“They even came back and tramped and kicked him again,” he added.

Kesari was then rushed to Grey’s Hospital, where he spent the night on Monday.

“He is in a lot of pain, his head has swelled up and he does not speak too much, only complaining that his head is worrying him. A neurosurgeon has been checking up on him,” said Sherwin.

The individuals involved in the assault on Kesari are unknown to the family, with Sherwin stating that when the family asked his brother if he knew any of them, he told them he did not.

“My father has opened up a case at the police station and we are now on the lookout for anyone who has any information regarding the identity of the people involved in attacking my brother,” said Sherwin, who added that his family are very worried about the well-being of Kesari.

The video of the incident can be viewed on the Maritzburg Fever Facebook page.
