NON-PROFIT organisation (NGO) Families South Africa Pietermaritzburg (Famsa PMB) is appealing to the community to sponsor and aid them in their quest to continue assisting the people of this city in marriage guidance services.

Famsa was established, alongside the PMB Marriage Guidance Society, over 58 years ago after the founders realised the need for marriage guidance services.

“We run a number of different services and play an important role in [helping] women, men and families alike,”

“Our organisation prides itself in restoring hope, faith, peace and trust in families and society as a whole,” said social work manager Lungile Masuka.

Famsa’s services consist of counselling through trauma, gender-based violence, grief; individual; family and pre-marriage counselling as well as divorce counselling, outreach programmes and support groups.

The organisation has satellite offices/services in Mafakatini, Esigodini, Mkhambathini, Northdale, Camperdown, Howick, Eastwood and Elandskop.

While the NGO receives subsidies for the social workers they employ, the large geographical areas that they serve require a more innovative approach and they often must train local women to provide services, receiving no government support in this avenue.

“With the many services provided, Famsa also face many challenges, mainly regarding finance. We are grateful for the donations we receive but they are not enough to keep Famsa afloat.

“We would like to call on those who are able to sponsor with anything, to please contact us. Any donation received will be greatly appreciated,” said Masuka.

If you feel you are in need of our services or know of someone who is, please do not hesitate to contact Famsa at 033 342 4945 or visit their main offices at 15 Drummond Street. Alternatively, send an e-mail to famsapmb@sai.co.za.
