RUSSEL High School dominated at a beauty pageant last week as two of it pupils were placed in the top three positions.

The pageant took place last Saturday at Gezubuso Hall and it was organised by Intabayabantu Models.

Nicole Naidoo (14), a Grade 7 pupil from Bisley, was crowned Miss Midlands High Schools, flanked by Aphelele Ngcobo from Russell High, who was crowned second princess. Sphesihle Duma from Edendale Technical High was crowned first princess.

The pageant’s aim is to give opportunities to high school pupils to showcase their modelling talent.

Speaking to Echo, Nicole said it was not her intention to enter the pageant and only entered to support her friend who was crowned the second princess.

“I have never done modelling in my life. It was my first time.

“My friend told me about this pageant and encouraged me to enter because she did not want to go alone,” she said.

She said since she won the pageant she is thinking of continuing with modelling.

“I have always loved modelling but I did not know how to go about it. This has given me a platform to start doing something that I love,” she said.

The founder and the organiser of this pageant, Mbuso Nyandu, said there were 42 pupils from different schools who entered the competition.
