MARITZBURG Central Area Soccer Stream League (MCASS) will host a two-day soccer holiday camp with the aim to develop young local players.

The camp, which is open to all local players, boys and girls from the ages of six to 17 years old, is scheduled for Thursday and Friday at Collegians Club, from 9 am each day.

According to the organisers, the holiday camp will be run by experienced coaches and will include skills training, dribbling, passing, shooting and defending.

Also providing training to local youngsters will be an American-based sports organisation focused on the development of soccer players, Rush Soccer.

“An exciting development is that members from Rush USA will be giving a talk on their organisation on Thursday from 6 pm in the Savages Clubhouse at Collegians and we will be hosting some matches against their teams from Sweetwaters on Friday from 1 pm to 4.30 pm and Saturday morning from 8.30 am to 11 am,” said one of the organisers, Benjamin Hartshorne.

“Rush will also be conducting a goalkeeper training session with international player Peyton Lockey on Friday from 9 am to 11 am.

“They will also be watching all games and activities with interest and will be on the lookout for talented players with a view of possible placement in colleges and clubs in the USA and internationally,” he said.

Interested players will need to pay a price of R300 each.

Registration started on Monday but late comers will still be accepted on the day of the event.

More information can be obtained from Hartshorne, who can be contacted at 071 525 1698.
