Horse racing lovers and fashionistas: prepare for an event like no other

2019-05-01 06:02

RETURNING for the 57th year, Tsogo Sun’s Golden Horse will once again host the biggest and most flamboyant horse racing sprint in Pietermaritzburg on Saturday, May 25 at the Scottsville Race Track.

Formerly known as the Golden Horse Sprint — this annual event first made horse-racing history in 1962 and is now celebrating 57 glamorous years as one of the most prestigious events on the entertainment calendar. With a rich history behind it, the Tsogo Sun Sprint is the only horse-racing event in South Africa to feature four A Grade races in one day, with over R200 000 in prize money up for grabs in the 1 200 metre sprint to the finish.

This event is also known for attracting the fastest horses and most experienced jockeys around Pietermaritzburg and surrounding areas.

Also with the fashion competition taking place on the day of the sprint, open to all individuals residing within the Midlands, Pietermaritzburg and surrounding Durban areas, this year’s theme, “Vintage Flair”, will give the attendees the freedom to express their individuality without holding back. Spotters and Judges at the Sprint will be looking for garments that are beautifully executed, with an emphasis on being beautifully dressed and a solid interpretation of the theme, combining creativity with a distinct fashion edge. Fashionista’s have the opportunity to win prizes for best dressed male and best dressed female.

In the past year, the Sprint attracted locals and out-of-towners, offering an experience like no other, accompanied with great live entertainment, food, music and the main attraction of the event – world-class racing.

“This year’s Sprint is definitely going to be one for the books. We can’t wait for this event, as well as announce what we have in store for our guests,” says Maureen Kivits, Golden Horse Casino’s General Manager.
