Hunt is on after guards are shot at

2018-03-14 06:00

POLICE are searching for two men who allegedly opened fire on two Magma Security guards who were patrolling the Chase Valley area on Sunday at 1 am.

The two security guards said they saw two men who appeared out of some bushes nearby.

Magma Security director Shaheen Suleiman confirmed that the guards on duty were in their patrol vehicle when they noticed two men approaching.

Immediately finding suspicion in the behaviour of the two men, the guards quickly turned the car around to question the men.

As soon as the guards approached the men they were met with open fire as the men pulled out their handguns and began firing shots at them.

Suleiman said that a gunfight ensued after the guards retaliated and opened fire back at the men who ran back into the bushes and made an escape.

“My guards possibly prevented a crime in this area. By patrolling and increasing guard visibility we are impacting positively on the community by preventing crime,” said Suleiman. Spokesperson for the police Sergeant Mthokozisi Ngobese said that no arrests have been made but that Townhill police are investigating a case of attempted murder and are searching for the two men in question.

“We had no robberies or break-ins being reported that night,” said Ngobese.

Ngobese hailed the Magma Security company’s contribution to crime fighting and said that their efforts are greatly appreciated.
