IMBALI hip-hop artist Samkelo Ngidi, known as “Sam-G Man”, will launch his extended play record (EP) titled King Kasi Life on June 9 in the Imbali Unit 1 hall at noon.

Ngidi, who started playing music in 2009, said this EP has 11 tracks and it is aimed at teaching people about kasi life.

Speaking to Echo, he said he wants to teach people about the kasi (township) life using music.

He said there are a lot of things that are happening in the townships that people are not aware of.

“I am not only teaching about kasi life, but I also want to warn people about the wrong things that people do. I think music is the best way to pass a message because people love it. They get to enjoy it while they are learning something. I hope that people will enjoy this EP.

“Music is my life. I cannot see myself doing something else besides music.

“Music has helped me a lot. I managed to maintain good behaviour and not get into drugs and alcohol.

“I write my own songs and I produce them. I know what I want in a song, and that is why I decided to do everything by myself and that helps me a lot because I am growing every day,” he said.

Ngidi has also opened his own studio called S.AM.G Entertainment Record, at his home.

He said he opened the studio because he wants to help other upcoming artists from the township who want to record their music.

“When I opened the studio it was not only for me, but for the whole community of Imbali. I want to help other artists because I know the difficulties of having to look for a studio to record your song in and sometimes you find it is very far and it is expensive.

“I also want to show people that you can do anything as along as you have a passion for it,” he said.

Ngidi said his EP will be available at the launch for R50 per copy.

Entrance is free. For more information on the launch, phone 071 829 7884.
