Jika Joe construction grinds to a halt

2015-11-25 06:23

CONSTRUCTION of the new Jika Joe temporary housing project has ground to a halt because of glitches between the Msunduzi Municipality and the project service provider.

It was stated at the economic development portfolio committee that the project has been on hold since 18 March.

This has been credited to delays in payment of the implementing agent.

The report from economic development portfolio committee states that the implementing agent has not returned to site as the challenges between the implementing agent and the municipality has not yet been resolved.

However, meetings between the Msunduzi Municipality and the implementing agent to resolve the matte have been held.

In April 2014, the municipality appointed Messrs Groundworks Project Management as the project manager for the Jika Joe housing project and Messrs Motheo Construction as the contractor responsible for the project.

About 214 residential units have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries. There are 79 units remaining to be built and allocated.
