BACK from the African Judo Championships, Chevonne Estherhuizen is back and ready to take on her next challenge as she looks set to enter the coaching world.

Placing seventh overall out of 11 competitors in Cameroon, Estherhuizen said that her experience was one that she would never forget as she represented her country for the first time.

“The competition was on a much higher competitive level than what I am used to, but I was ready. This competition has inspired me even more to set the bar higher and start taking medals at future international comps,” said Estherhui-zen.

Estherhuizen will now be looking to obtain her coaching qualifications in judo, saying that she is very excited to be embarking on this new journey.

“Judo is the best form of self-defense and can be easily used if someone wants to attack you. Apart from this, I have always wanted to make the world a better place and I believe that judo can do that because through judo you can learn discipline, respect, courage, honour, modesty and control,” said Estherhuizen, who added that these are values that people can use in their everyday lives.

Wanting to become a qualified coach so that she can spread the sport to as many schools as possible, Estherhuizen will be travelling to Croatia to train with the best of the best.

“I hope that once I am a qualified coach I can broaden this beautiful sport by holding lessons at various schools,” said Estherhuizen, who already holds judo lessons at her Club Judo opposite Greys Hospital.
