NOMINATIONS for‘the 2016 “A Young Lady with Heart’ closed on Friday 19 August and 20 semi-finalists will be selected and announced in next week’s Maritzburg Fever.

The semi-finalists will attend an interview and workshop at the Pietermaritzburg Community Chest on 10 September where they will also be briefed on the 2016 project to collect and raise funds for a sanitary towel drive for a local school.

This particular school in Copesville has been selected because a high rate of absenteeism has been identified among the adolescent school girls, who miss school during their menstrual cycle because they cannot afford these basic hygiene products.

“A number of our own Young Ladies with Heart come from underprivileged schools and we are calling on the community to ‘have a heart’ and partner with our girls by doing a collection at work,” said the organisers.

The semi-finalists will take this challenge back to their schools and communities and it will culminate in a final collection at Liberty Midlands Mall on 24 September, Heritage Day, after which they will visit some of the young ladies at the school they have assisted.

If you or your business would like to find out more about partnering with the 2016 Young Ladies with Heart, follow them on Facebook or contact the administrators of the campaign, Ursuhla Govender at 083 611 7733 or Lara Edmond at 084 587 0880. - Supplied.
