THE City of Choice will host the first ever KZN African Full Contact Karate Organisation (AFCKO) Karate Tournament. The tournament is organised by a non-profit organisation, the Themba Njilo Foundation, and takes place on March 28 at YMCA from 10 am. The participating fee is R150 per person and comprises different categories for both males and females. In the male division there will be categories for under 55 kg, under 65 kg, 75 kg, 80 kg and an open division. For the female division — 55 kg, 65 kg and an open division has been planned.Themba Njilo of the Themba Njilo Foundation said with this tournament they are trying to bring people together and introduce the sport. He said another reason is to try and bring back discipline to young people.“The discipline has disappeared from most of our youth and we are trying to bring it back. This sport will help them stay focused and always have something positive to keep them busy.“It will also help them not to get into things like drugs and alcohol,” he said.Njilo said introducing this kind of sport will also be of great benefit to those who love it as they will be inspired and get to interact with other people who are already involved with karate.“We understand that there are people who have love for karate but they do not get opportunity to show their skills as there is no platform for such.“This is their chance to come and show us and also inspire others who have a passion for this kind of sport,” he said. For more information on how to enter you can contact: 083 718 0138/083 599 5916/ 074 458 1530.
