HAVING launched his career only six years ago, the enigmatic and charismatic Karou Charou is one of the most commercially successful and recognisable brands on the South African circuit. The power of his brand was recognised by the international franchise of MacDonalds, who handpicked him to be the face of their spicy burger marketing campaign.

Karou Charou has over 20 000 followers on social media locally and internationally and has performed in Botswana and Zimbabwe. His YouTube videos have over 100 000 views and he has just released his rap music track and video.

Festival of Karou will see the “Turbaned One” attempt something never been done by any comedian in South Africa, if not the world.

He will perform three different full-length shows on three consecutive days at the same venue. With different scripts, props, costumes, music and lighting, this will be physically, mentally and technically challenging.

The festival takes place at the Sibaya’s iZulu theatre from 9 to 11 September. Kama Sutra 1 will feature on Friday, the sequel Kama Sutra 2 on Saturday, both shows are strictly for adults only.

The family show Hot & Spicy will feature on Sunday, which will also be recorded for his second DVD release.

Tickets cost R100 per person from Computicket, Shoprite and Checkers. Limited early-bird tickets are R80. Children under 10 and senior citizens tickets are R80 for the Sunday family show.
