LOCAL pupil Kiara Singh did her school and city proud last week when she won overall debutant and was named first princess in the national Miss SA Schools Ambassador competition.

The Miss SA Schools competition emphasises empowerment in young girls and involves various works of charity by the participants.

The event, which was held in Gold Reef City in Pretoria on May 25 and May 26, was a way for Kiara to make her late dad proud as he was the one who started her on this journey.

“I just hope I made my dad proud. It was a tough journey and I know he would have been extremely excited,” said Kiara.

She said that regardless of the accolades that she has received, the event was more for charity and for serving a good purpose in the community.

Based on a final interview with the judges and the previous charity work that the contestants had done prior to the finals, Kiara was able to walk away proudly with the overall debutant and first princess titles.

“I would like to thank every single person who sponsored me and most importantly my family and school for all the support. This has been an amazing experience and I will always cherish this moment.

“This competition has helped bring together girls from all over South Africa, allowing us to interact and realise our true potential,” said Kiara.
