Learner drivers on the road

2019-03-13 06:00

A NEW driving school is using the surrounds of Ridge Road, Carbis Road, Lymbrook Road and Hutchinson Road as its training route.

The learner drivers are not yet competent to drive in what is probably the busiest area in Scottsville.

While stopped at stop streets, the instructors proceed to give them verbal instruction while other road users have to wait endlessly for the learners to carry on or at least pull over so others can pass safely.

Carbis Road is used by parents fetching their children from schools, by the university’s 65-seater buses and by students, and is barely wide enough for two vehicles to pass each other, let alone when cars are parked alongside the pavement.

Is it possible to teach on quiet routes until the learners are more experienced? I am sure it would benefit their nerves and other road users in that area.
