THE Progressive Professionals Forum (PPF) in the Moses Mabhida Region, led by its chairperson Zandile Luthuli, together with PPF NEC, PEC, REC members; professionals, intellectuals, academics, and patriotic entrepreneurs visited the Mpolweni community on Sunday to lend a helping hand.
This community was recently struck by the tornado that claimed two lives and left may injured and others homeless.
“As the Moses Mabhida PPF Region, immediately after this heartless devastation, we called the office of the PPF secretary-general, Sithembiso Kubheka, to explore the form of immediate relief that we as professionals under the auspices of PPF could facilitate and mobilise.
“Items worth R100 000 were donated to deserving households. The items included blankets, mattresses and hygienic packs,” said Luthuli.
Bongani Khathi, a PPF REC member, said: “We express our gratitude to the good Samaritans who saw a need to make this contribution as part of reconstructing the Mpolweni community.”
PPF, through its secretary general, emphasised that PPF inculcates and promotes the values of patriotism and ploughs back to communities, hence the adopted mantra.
The handover and relief distribution event was also attended by the speaker of uMshwathi Municipality, Councillor Nokuthula Mdunge, Ward 9 Councillor Fasties Mbongwa, and Municipal Manager Nhlanhla Mabaso.
