Lessons for men to be learnt

2016-10-05 06:00

I HAVE been following with
interest the story of local policeman Riaan van Rensburg, charged with rape and attempted murder of a prostitute.

In his defence, as reported in The Witness, Van Rensburg told of how he had fought against three armed hooligans who had tried to hijack a woman and child in Randburg in January.

If it is true, the story proves that he is a caring and sympathetic man, the kind we desperately need in this violent society.

The truth of his alleged
shenanigans with the prostitute, however, will be determined by the court.

What is happening to Van Rensburg can happen to any man.

I am sure he will regret this for as long as he lives. I hope men in Pietermaritzburg will learn a lesson from his experience.

Leaving our cosy home and lying to our loving wives, girlfriends, partners and families to solicit gratification from prostitutes is playing with fire.

I hope Van Rensburg’s wife, family and friends will forgive him, whether he is found guilty or not.

It takes a strong man not to fall and be tempted in these days of Sodom and Gomorrah.
