Life sentence for rapist

2017-06-14 06:02

ON May 26, the Pietermaritzburg Regional Court convicted and sentenced 29-year-old Xolani Ndlovu to life imprisonment for rape and three years for kidnapping.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Thulani Zwane said on November 29, 2014, a 23-year-old woman was asleep in her room when two unknown men forcibly entered the room. “They threatened the woman with a knife and a firearm. The victim was taken to a certain house where both men raped her. They left the victim alone in the house and she managed to escape.

“The case was opened at Taylor’s Halt police station and the docket was transferred to Plessislaer Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit for further investigation.

“A month later the one accused was arrested and made several court appearances until his prosecution. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape and three years for kidnapping. We are still searching for the second suspect,” Zwane said.

The KwaZulu-Natal acting provincial commissioner, Major-General Bheki Langa commended the team of detectives for securing a life term for the accused.

“We hope this sentence will serve as a warning to others that we will make sure those involved in crime against vulnerable women and children are locked behind the bars,” he said.
