A 28-YEAR-OLD kwaito artist from Imbali has been nominated for the Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards, set to take place at the Durban Playhouse on November 24.

Cyril Mchunu, who started singing in 2012, has been nominated for best upcoming artist.

Speaking to Echo, Mchunu said this nomination is like a break-through for him as it has always been his dream to be nominated an awards competition of this stature.

“This nomination will add to my profile and it will boost my music career. What I love the most about it is that I will not only be representing myself but I will be representing my city.

“This is my chance to make it big and bring the award home, which is why I urge all my fans and the community of Pietermaritzburg to please vote for me so that we can put our city on the map,” he said.

Before he started singing, Mchunu said he was a dancer.

“I decided to combine my talent of dancing and music. I did not want my talent to go to waste, that is why I decided to start singing so that I can show people both my talents — singing and dancing.

“When I write music I make sure that it has a positive and encouraging message that will help other people want to follow their dreams, especially in the music industry. I have developed so much love for music and I am busy pushing it so that I can have a bright future in it.”

In August Mchunu released his single Lengoma feat Mso Da Deejay and Pam Zee. To vote for him in support of the Live Your Dream SA Youth Awards SMS LYD812 to 45633.

SMS cost R1.50.
