LIHLE Ngubo (21) from Lincoln Meade is representing Pietermaritzburg in the Tropika Island of Treasure season eight competition.

Ngubo was recently announced the first consumer contestant.

She is currently completing her third year of a degree in music, drama and performance at University of KwaZulu-Natal in Howard College.

Ngubo said it had always been her dream to be part of the Tropical Island of Treasure competition.

“I first auditioned for season seven of the competition but unfortunately I did not get in. But because I do not give up that easily, I went back again and stood in a long queue for season eight. I am extremely happy and so overwhelmed by the excitement.

“I have never been to an island before. I really wanted that outdoor experience and to be joining such well-known people is just a bonus for me. I am forever grateful to God for all that I have got and that I did not get because it all worked out beautifully,” she said.

Ngubo is one of the seven consumer contestants who will be joining seven celebrities to compete in paradise for a shared R1 million through the challenges that they will be given throughout the show.

“I believe that the Tropika Island of Treasure show is so fitting for me because I am a sporty person. I am a team player and I love to travel,” said Ngubo.

She said that although she was nervous during the auditions, she is determined to do her best in the show.’

Apart from being a student, Ngubo is also an actor, dancer and commercial model. She did her modelling training at Irene’s Model Agency.

The show started airing on Monday at 7.30 pm on SABC 3, hosted by Katlego Maboe.
