SHE never liked modelling when she was little but now 13-year-old Olwethu Ziqubu is one the finalists in the Miss Teen Globe South Africa 2018 competition which is set to take place at Durban City Hall on July 1.

Olwethu, from Henly Dam in Edendale, is signed under Posh International Model Management and was announced as a finalist last month.

Her mother, Jabu Ngwenya, said she was shocked when she received the good news that her daughter is one of the finalists.

She said: “Olwethu started modelling at church when she was very young but she hated it. In 2015, I met someone while with Olwethu and he told me that she must get into modelling. I encouraged her to try it and, although she was not keen in the beginning, she now loves it.”

“I am so excited. This is such a big achievement for her. It was her first time entering such a big pageant but she made it. I am really proud of her. I pray to God that she represents Pietermaritzburg well and brings back the crown,” she said.

Posh International Model Management Manager in Pietermaritzburg, and Olwethu’s mentor, Clive Hadebe said he is delighted that Olwethu was selected.

He said it was not a easy journey but he is glad that she was selected.

“We already feel like winners. We have worked really hard for this. It took us months to prepare. Miss Teen Globe is one of the biggest teenage pageants in the world and for her to be selected is such a big achievement. This competition is going to give her the platform that she needs to showcase her modelling talent as they (the finalists) will have a three day boot camp prior to the finale.

“There will be three crowns up for grabs on the day; Miss Teen Globe, Miss Charity Work and Miss Teen Tourism South Africa. I am hoping that we can bring home at least one crown and make PMB proud.”
