A 19-year-old from Richmond Crest says she is very proud to be representing her city as one of the finalists in the KZN Top Model SA 2018 pageant.

Sibahle Ndlela is a first year Bachelor of Social Science (community development and psychology) student at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Howard College campus, and she is former Miss Godziller 2017.

KZN Top Model SA 2018 is an organisation that recruits young people from all walks of life and gets them involved in the arts and charity work. It promotes sustainable development and giving back.

It also aims to keep youngsters off of the streets by exposing them to charities and uses platforms like modelling to keep them busy and out of illegal dealings.

She said : “I am excited and nervous at the same time. The reason why I am nervous is not because I am scared of people, but the fact that I am the only person from Pietermaritzburg in my age group, so the pressure is on me as I am representing my city on a provincial level. This is only my second pageant ever.

“If I win this competition, I will get the opportunity to compete on a larger scale in terms of pageants and also have a platform to uplift communities throughout KwaZulu-Natal, being able to reach out to young people, which is something I am very passionate about. There are lot of young people who have low self-esteem and winning this competition will help to help those people.

“I believe that I have a potential to win this pageant,” she said.

Ndlela said she loves modelling because it give you exposure that most other platforms would not be able to.

“In the pageant like this, even if you do not win, you get an opportunity to expose your talent to a large audience and you get the opportunity to engage with different stakeholders who could possibly take you far in your modelling career,” Ndlela said.

She also revealed that next month she will focusing on fundraising R3 000 or more for a charity of her choice and she is looking for sponsors.

“It is one of the requirement in this pageant, that you raise funds for charity. I am pleading with people to please assist as this will play a huge role in determining whether I win this pageant or not.”
