ELANDSKOP poet Bongeka Zuma known as ‘Mafahleni Wesizwe’ has done it again and won the Best Poetry award at the KZN Capital Maskandi Awards for the third time in a row.

The event was held in Thornville last Saturday.
Speaking to Echo, Zuma revealed that it was her last time entering the awards.

She said she believes that it’s time for her now to grow in this industry.

“I have won three times in a row, it is time now that I give other people an opportunity to shine too. It will not be fair of me if I continue.

“I am very grateful for the opportunity that I received. It has really helped me in putting my name out there and people recognising me. My dream now is to enter national competitions like the Satma’s because in the end, we all want to grow. I just want to thank all my fans who supported me from the start when I started entering these awards in 2016 till now. I would like to urge them to keep on supporting me and I will keep on making them proud,” she said.

Zuma said she knew that she was going to win this award because she worked very hard promoting herself and urging people to vote for her.

“I want to train young poets now and show them the way since I have been in this industry for quite some time. I want them to know that their talent does not end where they’re only entering the school competitions. They also need to enter competitions outside of school.

“I also want to host workshops for artists and teach them about the industry.”

Besides winning this award, Zuma recently released her first album titled Angizikhethelanga.
