A MAN who works for the local municipality was left seriously injured on Thursday night when he was knocked by a bakkie on Pieter Maritz Road in Pietermaritzburg.

ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on the scene at 11.45pm and found the man lying in the road against the pavement. The victim’s colleagues were found standing around the man, he added.

“Paramedics immediately assessed the man and found that he had sustained numerous injuries and was in a serious condition. Treatment and advanced life support interventions were immediately initiated, in an effort to stabilise the patient,” Meiring said.

He said once the man was treated he was transported to a private hospital for further treatment.

“It is believed that the man was knocked over by the bakkie while he had been collecting refuse. The bakkie was apparently not found on the scene. Local authorities will be investigating this matter further,” Meiring said.
