A CASE of murder and hijacking was opened at the Pietermaritzburg Police Station after a 25-year-old man was hijacked and killed on Victoria Road on Friday, September 13. According to Shawn Herbst of Netcare 911: “On Friday morning Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting on Victoria Street in Pietermaritzburg. Reports from the scene indicate that an adult male had sustained a gunshot wound to his head,” said Herbst, who added that the man was assessed on scene by paramedics and found to have no signs of life. He was declared deceased on the scene. KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said police officers were alerted of the shooting and the victim’s vehicle was found in Scottsville, where six suspects were arrested. “One of them was found in possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. They appeared at the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, September 17,” said Herbst.
