A 64-YEAR-OLD man was allegedly stabbed near the Church Street bridge in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday night. Reports from the scene indicate that the man was trying to catch a lift when he was accosted by unknown men demanding money.

The man tried to defend himself but was overpowered. The men then stabbed him in the chest and robbed him, leaving him in a serious condition.

He was transported by a Netcare 911 ambulance to an awaiting surgeon at a trauma centre.

The SAPS dog unit were also at the scene to investigate. - Supplied.
