FOR only R20, Hammarsdale residents and the public will be entertained by pageants, celebrities and music artists at Ulwazi Hammarsdale Festival on Saturday.

Hosted from tomorrow to Sunday under the theme “Phambili with our Community Empowerment”, the festival to be held at Mpumalanga Stadium has almost everything for everyone.

The organisers, Ulwazi Group say this is a follow-up to a successful Ulwazi Hammarsdale Festival in 2013 and 2014.

“It is time again to host the 2015 event and this time we plan to make it bigger and better than before,”

Ulwazi Group, in partnership with the Hammarsdale community, eThekwini Municipality and Durban Tourism are staging the third edition this year.

“This event benefits the eThekwini community and is non-profit. This event enjoyed much publicity and support in previous years and even featured on SABC2 Morning Live.

Background to the event

“The aim and vision is to empower and enrich people, to promote peace and democracy through arts, culture, beauty, sports and entertainment within the community by creating a sustainable annual three day festival in the greater Hammarsdale area that will encourage a sense of oneness and a spirit of ubuntu,” said the organisers.

How did the even come into being

The event is the brainchild of Ulwazi Group executive chairman and founder Bongani Mabizela, who comes from Hammarsdale and grew up in the Mpumalanga Township.

He is now respected entrepreneur with a successful and growing company that employs thousands of people internationally.

His dream is to give back to his special place and community that has always been close to his heart.

Sponsors are eThekwini Municipality, Gelvenor, Glodina, Romac Farms, Assagay Hotel, Ukhozi FM, Refresh, Frimax, Echo, Clere Skin Products, Metal Graphics and Total.

Organisers said gate money will be used to organise similar events in the future and to help disadvantaged families.
