MARITZBURG United are hoping for the same rhythm, hunger and fighting spirit they displayed when they played against Kaizer Chiefs at Harry Gwala Stadium on 21 November.

The Team of Choice surprised themselves, their supporters and Naturena-based visitors when they held them to a 1-1 draw.

Amakhosi were lucky to earn at least a point in this game because the local outfit matched them in all departments. Many thought the soccer gods were against United in bagging three points.

Also it will take a long time for United’s management, technical bench and players to forget that game.

Chiefs were able to score an equaliser after the fourth-match official controversially added six minutes when everybody thought the game was over and in the bag for the home side.

Team of Choice spokesman, Brian Zuma, says their clash against Chiefs proved that his team is capable of upsetting any side in the league.

“When we played against Chiefs, we were convinced our players were also quality and equal to any team in the PSL. I don’t know if Chiefs were lucky or it was us that were unlucky, but we were shocked when about six minutes were added after 90 minutes,”said Zuma.

On Sunday the team from the KwaZulu-Natal’s capital city will travel to Royal Bafokeng Palace in North West to play Platinum Stars at 3pm.

Zuma says it will be short-sighted to think their clash against Stars will be a “walk in the park” after putting up a great fight against Chiefs a few weeks ago.

“We agree that we played well against Chiefs, but it’s history and behind us. Our attention is now on our next assignment, which is Platinum Stars. It will be a different ball game, not easy at all, but we would like to keep our good rhythm and momentum that we displayed against Chiefs.

“We will be very careful and be level headed against Stars.”

Another KZN’s PSL outfit Lamontville Golden Arrows, will play Polokwane City at Chatsworth Stadium on Saturday at 3pm.
