NOKUTHULA Khanyile is the fresh new face at MaritzburgEcho.

Born and bred in Pietermaritzburg, Khanyile attended Fezokuhle Primary in Imbali Unit 18 and matriculated from Eastwood Secondary in 2006.

She studied for a national diploma in journalism at the Durban University of Technology and majored in online media.

Khanyile has been in the industry for four years and has built strong relationships in her community of Imbali Unit J.

She is excited to begin the next chapter of her career at Echo.

“I grew up reading Echo, so it’s such a privilege to finally be part of the team that puts the paper together. I want to see it retain its momentum as the most loved community newspaper in Pietermaritzburg, always producing compelling and interesting community stories that engage with readers and creates a lasting connection with them,” she said.

Khanyile has always had a passion for journalism.

“I have always wanted to be a journalist, besides the perk of hearing things before everyone else, I love writing and have always been interested in the depth of people and believe everyone has a story to tell. Being a journalist also takes you out of your comfort zone and you are always ready to take up new challenges.”

She said she is eager to build relationships with communities in the Echo readership.

“I have fairly good communication skills, which I think is a must for any journalist.

“Besides writing and articulating stories well, I also have a passion for digital journalism so I think that adds to the skills I bring to the table.”

Khanyile brings a fresh, young vibe to the paper and is determined to take the paper to even greater heights.
