“MY hard work is finally paying off,” says 17-year-old Michaelhouse pupil, Fraser Jones, who will be in Grade 12 next year.

It was announced last Monday that Fraser has been selected for the U19 squad to represent South Africa at the ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand from January 13, 2018 to February 3, 2018.

Fraser, who also plays for the KZN Inland U19 team, told Maritzburg Fever he is honoured to have been selected.

“I started playing cricket at primary school and have never stopped. I am so excited about this selection. I have worked really hard to get here and want to prove I can do this and show my talent.”

He is the only one from his KZN Inland U19 team who has been selected.

He said although he is excited about being in the SA squad it will be challenging because he will be starting Grade 12.

“I will try my best to balance everything, the World Cup and my school. When I return I will do everything I can to catch up with my school work.”

Fraser wants to continue playing cricket and make it his career once he’s finished school.

KZN Inland amateur manager Jason Sathiaseelan said they are excited that one of their players has been selected.

“He is an excellent player. He is one of the deserving players. He has the potential and is someone we want to see playing in our senior provincial team. We trust and hope he will re-present us well in the squad and in the World Cup,” said Sathiaseelan.
