Midlands Bee Market this month

2015-12-02 06:00

THE sixth annual Midlands Bee Market will take place on 12 December at Lynwood Club in Boughton. The market is held in conjunction with the Maritzburg Cricket Club’s T20 sports festival which takes place on the adjoining Linpark High School field.

This event is the highlight and biggest fund-raiser for the Maritzburg Cricket Club (MCC), which was established in 1884.

Funds raised by the event are used to develop and maintain the cricket pitch at Linpark High School, which is the home ground for MCC as well as maintain the two practice nets. The MCC X1 have this year been elevated to the Premier League so fund-raising is important to maintain a high standard.

The market has grown with each year and this year at the market the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) will have a stand and provide the public with various testing and give invaluable advice on the prevention of cancer.

Cancer is close to our hearts due to the market creator, Diane van der Vliet, dying from breast cancer in 2013. The day is themed “A Pink Saturday” and all vendors are encouraged to wear something pink.

In addition to this cricket players from the four teams taking part will play with pink cricket balls and pink wickets, courtesy of Bo’s Plant Hire and Span Africa, pink caps with the T20 festival logo will be on sale. All proceeds from the sale of these caps will be donated to Cansa.

The market will have a variety of stands ranging from toys, Christmas gifts, home décor, handbags and jewellery, to name a few.

There will be a jumping castle and swings for the children as well as food and beverages on sale.

The T20 tournament will commence on Thursday, 10 December until 13 December. The Eve Bowman trophy, currently held by Heidelberg, will be up for grabs again.

Entrance is free and secure parking will be available.

For more information about the market, contact Anne Rautenbach at 072 729 5811 or Rob Hardwick at 073 595 2966 for the T20 festival.
