THE Midlands Literary Festival will be celebrating its 10th birthday in style at the Fern Hill Hotel, outside Howick, this weekend. In addition to talks by a host of authors, this year’s event will also have a young black authors initiative.

Among the writers who will be in the KZN Midlands is Fiona Snyckers, whose book Lacuna offers a different perspective on Lucy, the young woman at the centre of JM Coetzee’s novel Disgrace.

Also on the programme are Fred Khumalo, who will be speaking about his book Talk of the Town, Siya Khumalo who has enjoyed success with You Have To Be Gay To Know God, Peter Storey, who will share his personal journey in I Beg To Differ, Ronnie Kasrils, who will be talking about Catching Tadpoles and Ralph Mathegka, author of Ramaphosa’s Turn.

And that’s a just a tiny sample of the line-up at the Midlands Literary Festival. There will also be free storytelling sessions for kids in Fern Hill Chapel. Book-lovers are invited to book tickets through Quicket or by sending an e-mail to info@midlandsliteraryfestival.org.za Why not get a R300 ticket for the whole weekend, so you can come and go as you wish?

And remember a cup of tea and coffee is included in your ticket price for each session. Lunch needs to be booked when you arrive and is R60 for a filled baguette or R120 for a buffet.
