MPUMELELO Jili and Mandisa Gasa have made it to the finals for the Mr and Miss uShaka Marine 2016 beauty pageant, respectively, and will be representing Pietermaritzburg.

Finals for Mr uShaka, Miss uShaka and Miss Junior 2016 will be on 30 April at uShaka Marine World at 6.30pm.

Jili and Gasa are members of Intsha Yomzansi Modelling Agency.

Jili who has never done modelling before said he is shocked and excited now that he is a finalist for Mr uShaka Marine 2016.

He said that he can hardly wait to have fun and enjoy the experience.

“I found out about the competition through Intsha Yomzansi. I was taken aback when I made it through the first phase of internal photo selections. I never thought of taking up modelling because I just never saw myself being a model. There is a first time for everything and I look forward to the experience. I am a shy person, but modelling has taught me to socialise with other people,” said Jili.

Gasa said that they are an example that anything is possible.

“I am honoured to have gone this far into the competition. People should never limit themselves because there is so much they can do,” said Gasa.

She has been modelling since primary school at Funulwazi Primary School.

“Last year I was part of Miss Hammarsdale and also modelled a garment at the Vodacom Durban July. I am confident that I will make it. I am looking forward to winning the title,” said Gasa.

Co-founder of Intsha Yomzansi Modelling Agency Thando Ace Dlamini said it is important for members to participate in competitions so that they can prepare for better things.

“Local beauty pageants can only take them so far. By only concentrating on local pageants puts them in a compromising position because they end up being afraid to face the competition,” said Dlamini.

Jili and Gasa urged Pietermaritzburg residents to visit the official uShaka Marine World Facebook page and vote for them.
